Basic Ideas of Geography

Objectives: Learn and apply four key geographic ideas using an atlas.

Materials: A middle school or intermediate atlas of the United States, such as The Nystrom Junior Geographer Atlas.

In an atlas you'll see political maps, physical maps, and historical maps. You'll see maps of rainfall and of land use. And you'll see pictures of people and places.

How do all these fit together? Geography helps you see your links with people and places across the country and around the world. Four key ideas will help you see these geographical links.
